Spiritually Speaking

Have you ever had someone ask you this question: How is your spiritual life? I have. In fact, I was in an "accountability group" where that was a standard question every week that we met. We would then tell the other guys how our time with God was during that previous week, how our Bible reading was, how our Scripture memory was, how our giving was. It was like a series of check boxes that somehow let others know how well we were doing in our "spiritual life."

Many Christians live a double life. I might even venture out and say most Christians live a double life. They have a "spiritual" life and an everyday life. Did you know that in the Hebrew language, what the original Old Testament was written in, has no word for "spiritual"? For the ancient Hebrews, everything was spiritual. There weren't two categories. Jesus would have looked at us like we were crazy if we asked him how his spiritual life was because he had no context for spiritual being something separated out from all of life. Three verses in the New Testament help us with the biblical answer to "What is spiritual?"

1Corinthians 10.31 :: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Colossians 3.17 :: And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3.23 :: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

Everything is spiritual. Eating. Drinking. Shopping. Waiting. Getting your hair cut. Taking a walk. Working. Laughing. Crying. Meeting new people. Putting your kids to bed. Mopping a floor. Cleaning a bathroom. Mowing the grass. It's up to us whether or not we will notice. Don't expect Church @ The Springs to be your "spiritual" zone. We are about helping you discover that all of life is spiritual and that every moment has within it the capacity for the sacred. Don't miss a moment.
